We’ve just made it easier to use the ESA brand to create merchandise or materials for events. If you are interested in producing and selling merchandising that shows the ESA logo, the ESA flags patch, or ESA’s mission patches, there is now a simple way to request the use of ESA emblems.
The European Space Agency understands that there is an interest in the development and sale of commercial goods bearing certain ESA brand elements. As such, ESA has taken the step to streamline the process for companies and individuals to use these elements in certain branded merchandise.
How does it work?
In order to produce and sell ESA-related merchandise featuring the ESA logo, ESA patch or ESA mission patches, approval is needed Companies and individuals who are interested in producing and selling ESA-related merchandise should notify ESA’s Communication department by completing the online form available here.
Please ensure that all the information is completed as accurately as possible. You should also make sure you read and understand the terms and conditions connected to the form. This explains the acceptable use cases for ESA’s brand elements. It is very important to follow these requirements precisely in order to avoid the withdrawal of any permission given.
Once your submission has been received by ESA, then you will receive an e-mail to let you know if your application has been successful, if changes need to be made to your submission or if your application has been refused. Once successfully authorised, you are then able to use ESA’s brand elements in ESA-related merchandise. Congratulations!
Using ESA’s brand elements
Please be aware that ESA-approved merchandise requires the adherence to certain basic design standards for the use of ESA brand identifiers. Permission must be sought and approved in writing and in advance by ESA’s Communication department. Some guidelines are listed below to assist potential companies and individuals.
The ESA logo
The ESA logo was created in 1975 and, following a restyling in 2020, the agency now has one distinctive logo for use on all its internal and external communications. It is used on all official ESA merchandise.

ESA Mission Patches
ESA missions have their own patch: an emblem composed of symbols representing important ideas and goals associated with the mission. Each ESA astronaut’s mission to the International Space Station has its own patch. Missions that don’t involve human exploration can also have a patch (for example science and Earth observation missions).
